For years, the roofing industry has provided self-adhered modified bituminous membranes as vapor barriers. These have typically been tested and classified under ASTM D5147. Johns Manville has recently tested a self-adhered "reinforced" modified base sheet that meets both the requirements for ASTM D5147 and now ASTM D6164 with its DynaGrip Base PR SD/SA.

There are numerous testing destinations for base sheets, depending on the type of reinforcement used within the membrane. These are polyester (ASTM D6164), glass reinforcement (ASTM D6163), and a dual reinforced polyester glass combination (ASTM D6162). These classification types can be technically confusing and often misunderstood. As your local technical resource, the Larimer Shannon Group is ready to provide additional clarification and complete understanding of these classifications.
